"Trust me..." - Grigori Rasputin
Boy, what a strange character in history was the mystic monk, Grigori Rasputin. From the poverty-stricken hills of Russia, he managed to work his way into the very top echelons of Tsar Nicholas II. Eventually, he managed to gain quite a bit of influence with the Tsar and his wife, Alexandra. Influence that let to some pretty poor decisions really; such as Tsar Nicholas himself taking command of the Russian army despite his clear lack of military knowledge and experience. Not everyone fell for his spells/charm though. Other powerful people around the Tsar's family eventually had enough of Rasputin's meddling with royal affairs and murdered him in late 1916. Even this was surrounded by some crazy mysticism and legend. Google it!
